According to Cardinal Jozef Tomko, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, “Catechists are truly the pride of the missionary Church!”. As we continue to persevere in fulfilling our Prophetic Mission, we honour the people who answered the vocation of teaching. Now, we celebrate the gift of Teachers and the vocation of teaching this month, the Vicariate of St. Jerome successfully concluded their National Catechetical Month Culmination last September 27, 2016 at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City.

The culminating activity started with a Eucharistic Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Bernard Elvin Simene, SSJV and other concelebrating priests in the vicariate. A warm welcome address was then given by the Vicariate Catechist Coordinator, Bro. Joseph Uy followed by a series of games. At the stroke of twelve in the afternoon, they had a bountiful lunch together as a family. In the afternoon each parish showcased their talents in singing, dancing and drama during the contest. It was a sight of happiness to see different parishes having fun together. The next part of the program was the Search for Ms. Catechist 2016 wherein six (6) parishes were represented by their candidate. After the awarding comes the community singing of the Katekista song and closing prayer.

The Catholic Church is indeed grateful to be blessed with these catechists who offered their knowledge, patience and time to evangelize our brothers and sisters about the Catholic Faith. Kudos to all the Katekista in the world!
