The Archdiocesan Shrine Eucharistic Congress on its 3rd year is now set. It is scheduled on February 22 at 5 to 10 o’clock in the evening at Polymedic Medical Plaza Function Hall. This year’s theme is Eucharist: Celebration of Faith. This is in celebration of the Year of Faith as declared by His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. Our speaker for this year’s congress is Msgr. Boy Salvador, SSJV, SLD. He is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. As a Doctor in Sacred Liturgy, he is the head of the Liturgical Commission in Mindanao.

The Eucharist being the source and summit of Christian Life (Lumen Gentium 11)is the soul of our faith. Without the Eucharist, our faith is lifeless, spirit-less so to say.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1324 states that

The Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” “The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.”

A faith without the Eucharist is no faith at all, but a faith that is fed and nourished by the Eucharist is a faith that is radiant with God’s glory and is on fire with passionate love for God and for others. This faith informs, forms, reforms and transforms our daily life here in this world that we may have the abundance of life (Mt. 11). I believe, this is what God desires for us.

Our annual Eucharist Congress aims at assisting God’s people to deepen their faith by providing them the contents of our Christian Catholic faith especially on the Holy Eucharist.
