The Santuario Eucaristico- Sacred Heart Parish celebrated the 5th year of its Canonical Erection and Dedication and Declaration Anniversary of the Shrine last August 2, 2013 which is also the feast of the founder of the Blessed Sacrament Congregation, St. Peter Julian Eymard known as the Apostle of the Eucharist. Fr. Joel R. Lasutaz, SSS, the Rector and Parish Priest welcomed all the parishioners who  joined the celebration during the 6:00 o clock mass at the Santuario. In his homily, Fr. Joel explained the meaning of “dedication” that is to set aside and consecrate a place for a holy purpose. The rector emphasized why some acts are not allowed inside the shrine because of the sacredness of the place. “During the Holy Mass when the bread and wine is consecrated and transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ so too are the people gathered around are transformed into Christ’s Body making them God’s holy people”, explained Fr. Joel, that is why reverence of this hollowed shrine is very important. And we show even greater reverence during Mass. Anything that is contrary to the holiness of the shrine must be avoided.

Canon Law defines the term shrine as “a church or other sacred place which with the approval of local Ordinary, is by reason of special devotion frequented by the faithful as pilgrims.” At shrines the means of salvation are to be more abundantly made available to the faithful: by sedulous proclamation of the word of God, by suitable encouragement of liturgical life, especially by the celebration of the Eucharist and penance, and by the fostering of approved forms of popular devotion. (Canon 1234.1) The Archdiocesan Shrine of the Holy Eucharist (ASHE), now called Santuario Eucaristico centers her life on a worthy and exemplary celebration of the Holy Eucharist and on the proclamation of the Word of God.

During the final prayer, Fr. Joel exhorted the parishioners to emulate the example of their founder St. Peter Julian Eymard, the Apostle of the Eucharist who said – “Be the apostle of the divine Eucharist, like a flame which enlightens and warms, like the Angel of his heart who will go to proclaim him to those who don’t know him and will encourage those who love him and are suffering.”;  “Hear Mass daily; it will prosper the whole day. All your duties will be performed the better for it, and your soul will be stronger to bear its daily cross. The Mass is the most holy act of religion; you can do nothing that can give greater glory to God or be more profitable for your soul than to hear Mass both frequently and devoutly. It is the favorite devotion of the saints.” (Amy Go)
