Last September 7, 2015 at 5:30am, the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro City welcomed the International Eucharistic Congress from the Diocese of Cebu City. Led by Fr. Joel R. Lasutaz, SSS, Bro. Coke Prieto, Fr. Allan Pulgo and Fr. Juliano Retiquez the communities from Santuario Eucaristico, Consolascion, Nazareno, Macasandig, Eco Church and Cathedral wholeheartedly welcomed the pilgrim symbol.

As soon as settled, a Welcome Rite presided by Fr, Joel was celebrated to introduce the pilgrim symbol at the port’s waiting area. Then a motorcade followed from the port to Santuario Eucaristico where a Welcome Mass was celebrated in honour of the IEC pilgrim symbol.
This was chosen as the symbol for the IEC as it remains a reminder of the beginning of our Christianity as Filipinos. The very day the cross stands on our land is the birth of the Christian faith in our hearts last 1521.

That cross is the symbol of:
– the faith we embrace
– of love we live through making ourselves witnesses of the gospel
– the Christ in us, our hope of glory.

The replica symbol also contains the images of the following saints:
– San Lorenzo Ruiz, Filipino Martyr
– St. Pedro Calungsod, Filipino Martyr
– St. Joseph, Protector of the Church
– Our Blessed Mother Mary

Purposes of the pilgrimage of the symbol:
– Spiritual: The visit of the symbol is the visit of God. It is a reminder of the beautiful gift of communion that as we are gathered together, there is God.
– Promotion: This serves as an awareness and invitation to all of the upcoming once in a lifetime 51st International Eucharistic Congress 2016.

The symbol stayed for visitation at the shrine for two (2) days. It was also introduced and presented to the delegates of the congress the next day. The lay gathered to the symbol and took pictures. At the end of the congress was a concluding mass led by his excellency Most Rev. Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, DD. After the mass was a eucharistic procession of the Blessed Sacrament as well as the transfer of the IEC pilgrim symbol to San Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral where it stayed another two days for the lay community to visit.

On September 10, 2015 at 6:30am, a Farewell Mass in honour of the IEC Symbol was celebrated in preparation for the turnover to the Archdiocese of Malaybalay City. This was presided by Fr. Rogen with Fr. Lando and Fr. Joel.
