As we welcome the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis opened the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica, inaugurating the new Jubilee. The ceremony took place after he celebrated Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception in St. Peter’s Square.

In accordance to the opening of the Holy Doors in the world, Most. Rev. Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, DD opened the first Holy Door of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro in St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral last December 14, 2015. To follow are the representing Shrines of each Vicariate under the Diocese. In the Vicariate of St. Jerome, the chosen shrine to have the Holy Door is the Santuario Eucaristico – Sacred Heart Parish and on the 19th of December 2015, the Holy Door was opened.

Beforehand, the people were given brochures about “Passing through the Holy Door of Mercy” for them to fully understand the importance and steps to receive Indulgence by entering through the Holy Door. The opening rites started at exactly 5:30PM and was led by our Vicar Forane, Msgr. Rey Monsanto, SSJV, AB, JCD, HP together with Fr. Joel Lasutaz,SSS, Fr. Muriel Uy,SSS, Fr. Clifford Barrios,SSS and Rev. Ronel Fulo Jr.,SSS. It was then Msgr. Rey and Fr. Joel who opened the Holy Door and the Eucharistic Celebration. The Holy Door will be opened to all who would like to pass through it until the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

As Pope Francis said, “In this Jubilee Year, let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of casting open the doors of his heart and of repeating that he loves us and wants to share his love with us…” (Misericordiae Vultus, The Face of Mercy, 25)
