5th Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress

As part of our continuous fullfilment of our prophetic mission and celebration of the visit of the 51st IEC pilgrim symbol, the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro once again conducted it’s 5th Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress with the theme: Christ in you, our hope of glory (Col. 1:27).

The congress was scheduled to start at 9:00am and expected to end by 7:00pm. The table for registration started at 7:00am and the delegates were encouraged to have an adoration to the blessed sacrament while waiting for the congress to start. The Eucharistic Miracles were also posted outside the shrine for the delegates to read. There were 639 official registered delegates in the congress coming from the communities of Santuario Eucaristico, Nuestra Señora Virgen del Rosario – Consolacion, San Lorenzo Ruiz Personal Parish – Gusa, Saint Isidore the Farmer Parish – Gusa, St. Francis Xavier – Pueblo, Jesus Nazareno Parish Church, San Isidro Labrador Parish – Kauswagan, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish – Agusan, Nazareth – San Antonio de Padua Parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – Bugo, Saint Antonio de Padua Parish – Manticao, Holy Rosary Parish – Camiguin, San Antonio de Padua – Manticao, Immaculate Conception – Bulua, Mother of Perpetual Help – Balingasag, San Vicente Ferrer Parish – Cugman, Sta. Ana Chaplaincy – Tagoloan, Saint Peter Chaplaincy – Macabalan, Sacred Heart of Jesus Chaplaincy – Canitoan, Mt. Carmel Parish – Carmen, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish – Villanueva, San Guillermo Parish – Iponan, Sacred Heart – Gingoog, St. John Vianney – Lumbia, Medalya Milagrosa – Lapasan, Our Lady of Fatima Parish – Camaman-an.

At exactly 9:00am, the congress started with an open liturgy and welcome remarks by Fr. Joel R. Lasutaz, SSS. A presentation of the pilgrim symbol and the upcoming International Eucharistic Congress this January 2016 was then given to the delegates by Fr. Rogen Leyson from the Archdiocese of Cebu followed by a video of the Life of St. Peter Julian Eymard, Apostle of the Eucharist whose apostolic work inspired the organization of the 1st IEC. After a break, the first talk about “Eucharist and Creation and the Poor” by Fr. Rey Raluto began. He emphasized our natural priesthood of creation and how to overcome anthropocentricity.

After a bountiful lunch, two other talks were given. The second topic was “Eucharist and Marriage” by Msgr. Rey Monsanto, SSJV, JCD who deepen the delegates understanding of the relationship of the Eucharist and Marriage in accordance to the doctrines of the church. In honor of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the third and last topic was about “Eucharist and Mary” by Sr. Ma. Anicia Co, RVM who presented Mary in the Gospels and Acts and Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mother of our Eucharistic Lord.

By the end of the raffle, we proceed to the Eucharistic Adoration, Vespers and Benediction and concluded with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Most Rev. Antonio J. Ledesma, SJ, DD and concelebrated by all the priests present. After which was the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament and transfer of the IEC 2016 pilgrim symbol to San Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral.

The pilgrim symbol stayed at the cathedral for a day before its turnover to the Archdiocese of Malaybalay.
